Online Registration and Pay Per View

Business Challenge

A major publishing company with a large subscription website required an Online Registration System in order that visitors could access the content on a free trial basis by providing personal and credit card information. At the end of this free trial period, the subscription would then be automatically converted to a full-time subscription.

The challenge involved not only capturing the personal and credit card details of each subscriber, but also the associated Marketing Campaign Codes to enable future analysis and segmentation.

The complexity of this project was significantly increased by the requirement to integrate with a number of online systems and legacy systems, including:

  • Content Management Systems
  • Customer Relationship Management Systems (CRMs)
  • Fulfilment System
  • Banking System (Credit Card Clearance)

A later phase of the project involved the development and trial of a Pay Per View (PPV) service.

Solution

The Online Registration System was specified and built to meet these requirements. We managed the delivery of the full solution from project initiation through to final testing and live. Our specific contributions included:

  • Project managing from initiation through to operational phase
  • Technically led the project and managed third-party suppliers
  • Wrote the business and technical specifications
  • Defined Marketing reporting requirements
  • Defined technical interfaces requirements
  • Managed the graphical design process of the registration screens
  • Defined, managed and tested security
  • Ensured that Data Protection Act (DPA) requirements were met
  • Managed technical tnterface between Marketing and various external agencies (PR, Marketing consultants, etc.)
  • Specified and carried out testing from unit through to full end-to-end testing
  • Defined and ensured it was operationally supported
